Ultimately, we do scramble to finish things at the last minute because we care more about flunking, or more about getting fired, or more about receiving angry emails from a client, than simply not doing the work.
The things in life you care about don’t get procrastinated. You have to care about the task at hand more than you care about the distractions. Sometimes it’s as basic as saying out loud, “I care about this thing.” Sure, the task is unpleasant. It’s not easy to care about something unpleasant. No one said it was easy. If it were easy, you wouldn’t be procrastinating.
Knowing that the issue is about care can often be enough to enable you to see through the fog of distraction and understand what you are truly dealing with.
